GEORGE MONTAGUE ELLWOOD Oak Dining Chairs
Wouldn’t normally go out and just pick off three random chairs (no arms or nothin’), but these aren’t just three random chairs.
With a firm and confident attribution to George Montague Ellwood and manufactured by J.S. Henry. C1900 (ask Christies, two top end Arts & Crafts dealers, google of course. And us).
Two side chairs and a spare, or building or completing a set for dining. Good find and fair to say the standard chairs appear a little harder to come by than the carvers.
Good original presentation and flavour. Dust still in the corners. Good rich colour and variation. Soundly constructed with use of peg joints.
Two seats replaced with a now well aged, early type vinyl. The original seat a well worn Rexine.
Original stuffing to all, feels like horsehair. Additional later webbing seen from underneath.
Relevant, expected knocks and bumps. A chip spotted and a couple of very minor repairs.
