I know what I like and I like what I know. I donít know much about rugs, but what I do know is; I like this rug plenty and for a number of reasons.
Maple & Co. Heavy to the lift. Dense, plush, wool weave. Quality, quality, quality. Invest in quality and itís assured. High end decorative, verging on antique status.
A visual feast which transcends any number of boundaries. Yes it would look great in amongst an Art Deco setting, or even amongst those wonderful Chinoiserie pieces of furniture produced by Maple & Co during the same period, however donít make the needy mistake of having to match. Itís distinguished. Even at some ninety years of age, in itís mildly tarnished, original condition, the vibrant intensity, alongside itís weighty presence, makes it impossible to fully absorb in one viewing. All consuming excellence, which will take some time to savour, to enjoy, to be fully appreciated.
Condition: Wool rug which is heavy. Particularly thick and plush with a tight weave. Original condition with no repairs. Colours still vivid with depth, however it will need a gentle, professional clean and freshen as thereís an overall dust dulling simply through age, build up and use.
Three small drip stains one end, also a small coffee/tea stain or two. An odour of cigars (this rather than cigarettes). Status.. No heavy wear and no threadbare areas. No signs of moth damage. No patchy fading. The fringe is heavily worn with most of the frill gone and for some, will need attention.
'Maple & Co, London' label to the back.
